Six Smooth Benefits of Grapeseed Oil

Good For Hearts and Hair

Grapeseed oil health benefits

The Skinny:

A lot of good things have been around for seemingly ever. Grapeseed oil is one of them. Depending on who’s judging, grape cultivation goes back 6,000 to 8,000 years, and so does grapeseed oil. Not surprisingly, it is produced from grape seeds left over from winemaking. It makes the process ecologically sustainable while helping to deliver a highly versatile and healthy oil for consumers. WellWell, of course, has the details. Read on.

The Slate:

Cooking Oil Light

Grapeseed oil has a moderately high smoke point, which makes it great for sautés and baked goods. A tablespoon holds 120 calories, 14 grams of total fat and no trans-fat, cholesterol, sodium, potassium or carbohydrates. It is high in polyunsaturated fats and omega-6 fatty acids.

Vitamin E Packed

One tablespoon of grapeseed oil holds 26 percent of the recommended daily value of vitamin E of 3.9 milligrams. It is a health boon as vitamin E has antioxidant effects, which help protect cells from free radicals. Vitamin E also supports a strong immune system and widens blood vessels, lessening the risk of clots.

Fights Hypertension

Grapeseed oil may reduce blood pressure issues for patients with prehypertension, according to one study. The research found that 400 milligrams of grape seed oil extract lowered systolic blood pressure by an average of 13 points. Even half that dosage had a positive impact.

Improves Insulin Resistance

This oil has been shown to improve insulin resistance in overweight women thanks to its polyphenols. Research shows it can also impact energy metabolism disorder.

Heart Happy

Grapeseed can boost heart health due to its polyunsaturated fats breakout, which helps lower LDL (bad) cholesterol levels, reducing the risk of heart attacks and strokes.

Great For Hair

The vitamin E, flavonoids, polyphenols and linoleic acid in grapeseed oil are great for hair and scalp health, limiting premature hair loss and graying. Used as a conditioner, it can add shine, reduce split ends and limit the damage done to manes from ultraviolet light, which underscores grapeseed oil benefits for hair.
