The Skinny
Smoothies are the ultimate tease. They usually have great names, taste even better and imply all sorts of medicinal benefits. Ultimately, having a smoothie is almost a noble gesture, leaving you feeling like you’ve done something good for yourself. Well, they may almost always sound and taste great, but they are often overloaded with fat and sugar that isn’t doing your waistline or much of anything else in your body any good. Don’t fret. There are plenty of great tasting smoothies that live up to the hype. Here are six low-calorie, healthy delights to get you started.

Looking for a basic green smoothie to get you started? Try using romaine lettuce and spinach as a launch point. They have a mild taste. Later, maybe switch to Swiss chard, collard greens, kale and even dandelion greens for something a little bolder. Either way, combine your greens with 1 banana, one cup frozen pineapple chunks or frozen peach slices and 1 cup frozen mixed berries or frozen blueberries. Its only 77 calories.
