The New Jersey State Botanical Garden at Skylands

In The Garden of Jersey, Honey

The Skinny:

Steeped in history and enriched with flowerful arches and picturesque fields, the Instagram primed Skylands is truly one of the state’s hidden gems—a balm for the body and mind.

The Krispy:

Known as the Garden of the Garden State, the New Jersey Botanical Garden offers a unique venture into nature’s beauty. From elegant formal gardens to unexplored hiking trails, Skylands with is more than 1,000 acres remains one of the Garden State’s unheralded jewels. Originally composed as the nucleus of an awe-inspiring property belonging to the late 19th Century New York lawyer, Francis Lynde Stetson, the gardens have hosted a Who’s Who of significant figures. As an incorporator of railroads and the U.S. Steel Corporation, Stetson used the scenic property and accompanying mansion to entertain the likes of Grover Cleveland, Andrew Carnegie and J.P. Morgan. Now open to the public, the Skylands Manor has been repurposed as an entry way to the botanical gardens, helping others to discover some of New Jersey’s most scenic views.

The Voice:

“The gardens are amazing, a natural oasis of meadows, flowers and tranquil paths in the middle of suburban New Jersey. A great place to walk, think and chill.”

– Joe Miller, Manhattan, NY
